Artist Jill Soukup’s connection to the bison feels almost destined. Born in Buffalo, New York, and raised in Colorado, she has spent much of her life surrounded by the spirit and imagery of the American West. In this powerful painting, Soukup brings the bison forward with commanding presence, using expressive brushwork and rich layers of plum, charcoal, earth tones and luminous cream. Its direct gaze conveys strength, resilience and quiet dignity, while the surrounding atmosphere seems to move around it like wind across the plains.
